Multivac unveils sliced food spray system without interleaving film for plastic savings
10 May 2021 --- Multivac is introducing a spray system for slicing and packaging cheese, ham and vegan products that reduces plastics consumption by bypassing the requirement for conventional interleaving film between slices.
The system presents thinly sliced or sticky products attractively in the pack and allows consumers to remove individual slices cleanly.
The solution can be integrated into existing slicer lines and is now available for individual tests and product development in Multivac’s new Center of Excellence for Slicers & Automation Solutions.
Precision nozzles
Precision nozzles on the spray system atomize a liquid interleaving medium, which is both odorless and tasteless and can be tailored to particular properties, such as the sliced product’s fat content.
The liquid is applied evenly to the underside of the slices, reducing the adhesion between the individual slices while ensuring the product is not altered.
This procedure is common practice in the food industry, for example, with bakery products or sweets.
Customized applications
The German supplier invites customers to visit its new Center of Excellence for Slicers & Automation Solutions to experience the system in operation.
“We will be conducting customized tests with their sliced products to develop a bespoke system, which is designed perfectly for the particular product characteristics and the requirements of their slicing solution,” says Manfred Achenbach, senior VP for the Slicing Business Unit.
Multivac opened its new Center of Excellence for Slicers & Automation Solutions as part of the so-called Training and Application Center at the company’s headquarters in Wolfertschwenden, Germany, at the start of the year.
The company showcases “practically all” its food industry solutions at the center, including the presentation of complete lines from product infeed to end-of-line, tailored precisely to customer needs.
The visitors are given a sense of the complete process chain, which is then reproduced later in their own production environment.
The process chain ranges from a demonstration of the various slicers, through to the presentation of the different loading solutions downstream of the slicer, up to the actual packaging process.
Working together with the customer, Multivac’s experts conduct customized tests with a particular product while also examining the eventual solution for feasibility, output, give-away, yield and return on investment.
