NOVA Chemicals introduces foamable DYLARK; FG resins for food packaging
NOVA Chemicals Corporation today announced the commercial introduction of foamable DYLARK® FG resins.
12/05/06 Pittsburgh, PA - NOVA Chemicals Corporation today announced the commercial introduction of foamable DYLARK® FG resins, a new family of styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) copolymer resins for microwavable packaging. Designed for take-out food containers and home meal replacement packaging, foamable DYLARK FG resins provide structural integrity at high temperatures for safe microwave re-heating and feature superior insulation to maintain hot food temperatures in transit.
"Foamed take-out containers made with DYLARK FG resins maintain rigidity and provide insulation performance that protects food while it travels from a restaurant or grocer to consumers’ homes. These benefits are maintained during microwaving, providing a safe consumer experience that exceeds expectations for foamed food packaging," said Debra van Holst, Global Packaging Director for NOVA Chemicals. "We expect restaurateurs, food service providers and consumers alike will appreciate this outstanding new product."
Packaging made with foamable DYLARK FG resins provides leak resistance and stiffness at high temperatures for safe handling of hot take-out or microwave re-heated foods. The insulating properties of foamable DYLARK FG resins result in packaging that is cool to the touch yet keeps food hotter longer — presenting an attractive alternative to competing materials such as polypropylene, filled polypropylene or polystyrene foam. This FDA-compliant, patent-pending family of resins can be processed on existing extrusion foam equipment and features lower part costs compared to polypropylene.
Foamable DYLARK FG resins are now available to customers worldwide. They are the newest addition to NOVA Chemicals’ suite of performance products for food packaging, which includes DYLARK FG, ZYLAR® EX and SURPASS® resins.
