Pack Expo 2023: Beumer Group boosts outdoor storage with stretch hood film for palletized goods
04 Sep 2023 --- Beumer Group will show its Beumer stretch hood packaging system at Pack Expo in Las Vegas, US, September 11-13. The system is manufactured in a modular design and covers palletized or disorderly palletized goods with its stretch hood film.
Marvin Krampe, segment manager of Products at Beumer, tells Packaging Insights that the packaging system allows the goods to be safely protected from environmental influences such as sun, dirt and moisture during handling and outdoor storage.
“This end-of-line packaging of full pallets is also used in the Warehouse & Distribution sector for transport packaging of, for example, store orders. Due to the high restoring forces of the stretch film, it fits tightly around the entire stack, ‘like a second skin,’ providing the necessary stability,” explains Krampe.
Cross-industry applicability
The smooth surface of the transparent and highly flexible film also makes the palletized goods easily visible. Barcodes underneath the film are also readable, and the film itself can be printed and colored as an advertising medium. Krampe asserts that tamper protection is also important as “unauthorized persons cannot remove goods from the pallet without destroying the film.”
“Our machines can be used in the chemical and petrochemical industries, food and cement production, consumer goods and building materials,” he explains.
Regarding expected Pack Expo trends, Krampe highlights that there is “great potential” in digitalization and how operators can benefit from it.
“This also applies to our complete packaging lines, which are digital, networked and adapted to the user’s products. With the Software Solutions division, the Beumer Group strategically aligns itself with the growing market requirements for digital offerings.”
Complying with customers’ demands
Beumer’s Product segment manager notes that another important aspect is the comprehensive customer support that ensures systems’ availability. “This includes a round-the-clock hotline, rapid spare parts supply and worldwide subsidiaries to provide customers with fast support wherever they are,” says Krampe.
“With the Beumer Smart Glasses, we have developed a future-oriented product: Technicians from Beumer Customer Support can virtually look over the shoulder of the customer’s service technician and solve the problem together. This digital solution reduces time-consuming travel and high additional costs.”
Another trend is that customers are demanding more sustainable and energy-efficient systems, asserts Krampe.
“In the Beumer stretch hood, a high-performance packaging line, for example, we rely on energy-efficient electric drives. To further reduce energy requirements the expensive air blast for cooling the film sealing seam is omitted – as is the hydraulic system.”
“Our compact, high-performance packaging line uses only 0.03 kilowatts per hour per pallet. Reduced compressed air consumption saves money. Eliminating hydraulics also removes the risk of leaks. Customers are increasingly asking for stretch hood films with the highest possible recycled content of up to 30%. Our machines can process these films safely and reliably,” he concludes.
