FRENCH manufacturer Paker, represented in the UK by Sussex & Berkshire Machinery, of Alton, has introduced a board sleeving machine capable of handling the output from multi-lane ready meal lines. Typically running at up to 300 trays/minute, the machine operates in wraparound style flat blanks - a style that saves the cost of pre-made 5-crease sleeves and allows a choice of lock style or glue closure. With a machine design emphasis on positive board and product handling, this ensures that squareness is maintained to the finished pack at all speeds. For example, says S&B, rather than glue the final overlap seal when the board is turned, Paker makes the overlap first and reopens it to apply the adhesive. This way there is no risk of creasing by trying to fold over board that is already secured at one end of the pack.
