Leading private label packaging manufacturer, Paragon Print and Packaging have worked exclusively with the Co-operative to launch an 80 strong range of food-to-go products, as part of the retailer’s new Loved by Us launch.
Having recently announced the complete re-design of its 2,500 standard own-label tier under the Loved by Us title, the new food-to-go range marks the first wave of products to launch under the new flagship brand.
Given the anticipation around the new design and its desire to engage a broader target audience, the requirement to deliver consistency on shelf across multiple packaging formats and print processes was fundamental to the launch process. Having significantly invested in group wide colour management systems over the past 18 months, Paragon used cutting-edge digital colour technology to ensure total consistency was achieved throughout the entire range, regardless of substrate, print process and packaging format.
Commenting on the printed packaging, Brooke Fletcher, the Co-operative’s Marketing Manager for Packaging Design added “The launch of our new ‘Loved By Us’ design marks a distinct change for the Co-operative as we look to strengthen our own brand packaging offer. The new design is bold, contemporary and vibrant so it was important we worked closely with Paragon to ensure we achieved absolute colour consistency on shelf across all packaging substrates.”
With the prominent change in design, the new launch marks another significant step for the Co-operative is their transition from plastic sandwich packs into the new cartonboard skillet format. Using sustainably sourced FSC board, the new fully recyclable format has cut plastic by around 90%, with overall carbon impact having been reduced 61%. Through the utilisation of Paragon’s Freshlife™ technology, the packs also work to enhance freshness as well as overall appearance, flavour and texture to help reduce food waste.
Iain Ferguson, the Co-operative’s Environment Manager commented “we continually strive to reduce the carbon impact of our packaging without compromising on the quality or shelf life of the products inside. Selecting this skillet for the sandwiches allowed us to maintain the shelf life while reducing the carbon impact.”
Now available in Co-operative stores nationwide, Paragon look to support the on-going launch of the new Loved by Us range in all categories and supplied print formats.
