This proves a study by the university Hohenheim in Germany: “The percentage of vegetarians in Germany (only citizens older than 18 years are counted) is about 3.5 %. Only a very small group of less than 0.5 % ‘lives’ vegan. Compared to a previous representative survey, thus the percentage of vegetarians has approximately doubled.” This change in healthy diet is reflected at this year’s Biofach as the fair picked “vegan” as one of its main topics. Quite often vegan living consumers have no other choice but to ask each and every food producer for a detailed list of ingredients of each and every product, e.g. if a certain wine was clarified using gelatin or not. The European Union is trying to gain a certain level of consistency by implementing several new regulations.
