ProAmpac expands food-to-go recyclable packaging portfolio to North America after European success
03 May 2021 --- ProAmpac is expanding its fresh-food-to-go recyclable packaging portfolio to North America after finding success in the European market.
Earlier this year, ProAmpac acquired Rapid Action Packaging (RAP), a UK-based manufacturer of cellulose-based packaging products for freshly prepared and ready-to-eat foods.
RAP is a leading designer and manufacturer of sustainable packaging for freshly prepared foods sold at retail, including sandwiches, wraps, chicken tenders and salads.
With the acquisition, ProAmpac expanded its manufacturing capabilities to produce primary packaging for ready-to-eat and freshly prepared foods, broadening its sustainable product offering for retail food markets.
“Continuing our mission to deliver sustainable, flexible packaging solutions, ProAmpac is pleased to offer the full capabilities of the RAP product line to the North American market following our successful merger in January,” states Adam Grose, chief commercial officer for ProAmpac.
“Already proven in the UK and EU markets, our sustainable, extended shelf-life packaging products ensure consumers experience the same quality and freshness whether food is produced in-store or upstream.”
RAP products
Widely recyclable in paper streams, each RAP product strives to remove avoidable plastics and use the least amount of materials possible, states ProAmpac. This helps to reduce overall packaging and food waste.
In addition to the sustainability benefits, the fresh-food-to-go portfolio offers modified-atmosphere options with customizable designs.
Whether food is produced in-store or upstream, the packaging is guaranteed to provide a uniform standard, says the company.
Commissaries and food retailers can customize their fresh-food-to-go packaging according to their product needs and applications with materials, graphics, window placements and overall design features.
By weight, the largest component of RAP packaging is paperboard and paper, and the fiber used is a certified, renewable resource from well-managed forests, certified by SGS FSC and PEFC.
ProAmpac innovations
Last year, ProAmpac invented CurbSafe, a foodservice delivery bag. Available in six different colors, the recyclable PET bag is customizable for printing, which supports on-pack branding. Vent holes at the top of the bag allow steam from hot food to escape, while a tamper-evident seal provides an easy opening for consumers.
CurbSafe is intended to cater to the retail and e-commerce sector, which has seen a surge in demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also this year, ProAmpac launched a patent-pending recycle-ready retort pouch for human and pet food. A next step in the product’s development is incorporating post-consumer recycled (PCR) and post-industrial recycled (PIR) content to create a fully circular solution, the supplier reveals.
