ProAmpac launches tamper-evident foodservice delivery bags amid e-commerce boom
08 Jun 2020 --- Flexible packaging company ProAmpac has invented CurbSafe, a foodservice delivery bag. Arriving in six different colors, the recyclable PET bag is customizable for printing to support branding. Vent holes at the top of the bag allow steam from hot food to escape, while a tamper-evident seal provides easy opening for consumers. The latest packaging innovation caters to the retail and e-commerce sector, which has seen a surge in demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“During this unprecedented time, ProAmpac’s retail and restaurant customers have quickly adapted to online ordering by increasing the availability and quality of their home-delivery and curbside pickup,” says Chad Murdock, President of ProAmpac’s Food Service, Retail & Secure Packaging Division.
Early to identify this trend, Innova Market Insights ranked “Packing an e-Punch” as its top third Packaging trend of 2020, considering how quickly online retailer packaging is proliferating.
Notably, once the bag is opened, it cannot be resealed. “Our CurbSafe packaging offers a tamper-evident design, deterring drivers from sampling what’s inside during delivery. This provides assurance that the ordered goods arrive in the same state as when they were packaged,” Murdock affirms.
The sealed top, with perforation below the tamper-evident tape, further offers an easy-open tear strip for consumers. Available in either clear or white film, the CurbSafe bags’ handles, gusset and bag size are made to order.
ProActive Sustainability
The CurbSafe bags make for the latest addition to ProAmpac’s ProActive Sustainability product line, which operates under the motto “Less Waste in the First Place.” CurbSafe bags contain various percentages of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, based on the respective customer’s requirements.
CurbSafe bags are designed for in-store drop-off recycling as well as polyethylene film collection streams. Products that contain PCR plastic are created from a non-virgin, recycled plastic resin source. ProAmpac can therefore incorporate PCR into materials to meet customer sustainability and carbon footprint reduction goals.
Erupting e-commerce
The increased demand for e-commerce is driving innovation in the sector. Recent examples include wellness UK start-up Heights developing a subscription-based service delivering its omega 3 capsule and Stora Enso’s newest addition to its food-safe packaging for e-commerce, AvantFort. Spruce CBD now uses a new print technology that prints fine lines and artwork on 100 percent recycled corrugated packaging. This cuts back on time and costs associated with flexo printing for its e-commerce shippers.
Moreover, packaging machine specialist Hugo Beck launched two packaging machines in response to heightened consumer demand for online commerce, which the company says increased in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
