Real Good’s aseptic packs by Ecolean score high in Indonesia’s food safety ranking
06 Apr 2020 --- Through the use of Ecolean’s aseptic, lightweight plastic packaging, Indonesian food and beverage manufacturer Real Good has become the first national company to receive Class A certification from Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control in the Aseptic category. Having demonstrated high standards in its sterility test results, Ecolean provided the agency with additional requested information on the aseptic packages’ benefits in food safety and sterilization methods, leading to the certification.
In February, Ecolean’s Senior Advisor of Ambient Technology Paul Mellbin and local Ecolean representative Doni Kurniadi presented the company’s aseptic technology to the national agency’s inspectors, elaborating on new product registration and post-market inspection for aseptic packages. Kurniadi notes that the inspectors were “delighted” to learn more about Ecolean’s aseptic technology using e-beam, since this was “totally new information for them.”
“When we launched our first aseptic packaging solution for ambient distribution in 2008, we were one of the first packaging suppliers to use e-beam technology as a sterilization method. This ensures that food contact surfaces are never exposed to any chemicals during the production or filling. It was groundbreaking at that time and we are still leading this development,” Mellbin explains.
Moreover, he states that Ecolean’s sterilization process is separated from the filling machines and performed at the Ecolean manufacturing plants. “This is unique in the industry. We believe that in the future, our customers, as well as end consumers, will demand better processes and a more transparent approach by their suppliers.”
Aseptic packs for Asian beverages
Targeting five to 12-year-olds in Indonesia, Real Good launched three flavored UHT-milks in Ecolean Air Aseptic 125 ml packaging with straws in 2017. These lightweight, thin packages consist of a multilayer structure that has extended light and oxygen barriers to protect the content. They are also microwave-friendly, given that they are aluminum-free.
The packs further reduce detrimental environmental impacts considering they do not require refrigerated storage or distribution. In February, Ecolean supplied 200 ml Air Aseptic packs to Shou Quan Zhai, one of the oldest food companies in China, for its ginger tea and plum juice beverages.
Recently, Ecolean and its customers in the Chinese dairy sector announced they are donating products to hospitals and other institutions in communities affected by general restrictions due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
