Retailer Puts Chocolates in Biodegradable Tray

Tray made of extruded sheet based on high-amylose cornstarch-based material from Plantic Technologies Ltd., Melbourne, Australia, holds assortment of milk, dark, white chocolates. Retailer selects tray because it’s derived from renewable sources, biodegradable, home compostable. Accredited by AIB-Vincotte, Vilvoorde, Belgium, with OK Biodegradable Soil seal, tray meets European compostability standard (EN13432).

“Our decision to incorporate Plantic packaging has grown primarily from our aim to reduce the amount of packaging that we use by 25% over the next five years and use sustainably sourced packaging materials and materials that are easily composted or recycled,” explains Helene Roberts, head of Packaging, Foods at Marks & Spencer.
