MACHINERY open days at the Huntingdon headquarters of Romaco UK gave visitors a sneak preview of what to expect at Interpack 2002, in Düsseldorf from April 24-30. Romaco unveiled the Noack 921 blister packer, to add to its medium output 900 range. At three metres long, the 921 makes use of vertical and horizontal web paths to achieve compactness, ease of access to integrated process stations, and for ultra-quick tool-free changeovers. Now the fastest model in the range, at 100 cycles/minute, the servo-drive continuous motion machine can handle a wider web of 210mm, and produce more than 700 blisters/minute. The 921 was fitted at high level with a Hapa 226c top-web flexo print unit for on-line security printing and personalised graphics/ information, followed by a date and batch code system. The bottom web, after blister moulding and tablet insertion, was fitted with a Polyphem 1030 scanning system from Romaco's Laetus stable. This is able to detect and reject faulty processing such as missing product in the mould and whether different coloured tablets are packed in the correct sequence.
