Herculight gives your box performance new punch
The clear trend within the corrugated market for lighter weight and higher performing papers was the driver for SCA Containerboard to rebuild its paper machine in SCA Packaging Aschaffenburg in order to produce Herculight, a new fluting in the lower weight range. Using the latest paper technology, this new grade, which has just come on to the market, has been designed to provide the optimum ratio between box strength and paper substance involved.
Herculight is a flexible solution for a wide range of packaging solutions such as presentation packaging, standard boxes or complex die cuts. It has an excellent runnability on all corrugators, from the traditional ones to the latest high-speed technologies. Technical customer support is fully part of the Herculight package along with comprehensive supply chain service and the SCA-customised vendor managed inventory (VMI) programme. See the specially-designed brochure and sales contacts list in this press pack to know more about this exciting new product.
SCA Packaging Europe’s largest ever investment now up and running
A few months ago, after a major rebuild, one of the largest and most up-to-date paper machines was put into operation again by SCA Containerboard at its SCA Packaging Aschaffenburg mill. This rebuild has led to an increase in efficiency and quality at the mill, securing the economic future of the area and making SCA Containerboard the first large integrated packaging provider to produce fluting in a lower weight range.
The project demanded high performance, flexibility and engagement from all parties involved. The former 15-year old machine had to be taken to pieces and the majority of it had to be rebuilt with new components which extended it by 15 metres and increased its speed to 1,200 metres/minute. This was carried out with the shortest possible downtime of only 42 days. Countless technical measures needed to be coordinated during the rebuild, which successfully started up again in November 2005. Congratulations to all the people involved in such a complex and challenging project!
