SEE speeds up production and avoids excess packaging with new digital die-cutting tools

12 Oct 2023 --- SEE is launching digital die-cutting capabilities for its Sealed Air brand Korrvu’s retention and suspension packaging to speed up turnaround time from design to production. 

The new offering replaces traditional die tooling with digital die cutting, which slashes production lead times down to weeks instead of months. Digital-first production, meanwhile, allows customers to place smaller minimum order quantities, so they don’t have to store excess packaging. 

Korrvu retention and suspension packaging uses a strong, low-slip film to surround products, protecting them from shock and vibration with good visibility. The packaging is curbside recyclable with the plastic film attached to simplify consumer recycling. 

“Korrvu packaging solutions were traditionally cut with physical dies that were made to order for each customer. That process could take months to perfect,” says Ingo Lublow, EMEA director for Protective & Equipment Marketing at SEE.

“Our new digital Korrvu capabilities eliminate the need for custom tooling, so our customers can get their designs prototyped, sampled and into production more quickly.”

Furthermore, customers can switch to on-demand production and ordering. Digital technology allows high-volume and short-run Korrvu orders to be produced on demand, helping customers keep the right amount of packaging on hand while freeing up storage space in warehouses.

Customers can also improve sustainability through the new die tooling as digital finishing simplifies the supply chain to reduce the carbon footprint. 

Earlier this year Sealed Air (now SEE), ExxonMobil, Cyclyx International and Ahold Delhaize USA announced their advanced recycling collaboration will be scaled up after the successful conclusion of a year-long trial. 

Launched in April 2022, the groups partnered to collect and convert plastic waste from supermarkets into food-grade packaging using ExxonMobil’s Exxtend technology, which breaks plastic waste into molecular blocks and attributes the certified-circular polymers via mass balance accounting.
