Sirane integrates HP Indigo 200k Digital Press to slash energy consumption in flexible and board packs
28 Mar 2023 --- Sirane is among the first packaging companies in the UK – and one of only three worldwide – to utilize HP’s newly-released HP Indigo 200k Digital Press, which will be installed on-site in April.
The digital press offers short runs, unlimited unique designs, increased productivity and energy efficiency, which are said to improve the company’s printing capabilities on both flexibles and board.
The HP Indigo 200K Digital Press has been designed to print on any off-the-shelf substrate and offers increased productivity and improved print quality.
Furthermore, the digital press has been designed to give digital packaging converters a competitive edge with better productivity, on-demand delivery, no minimum orders, unique designs, reduced energy consumption and minimal waste.
“Digital printing isn’t just about short runs,” says Peter Ralten, commercial and business development director at Sirane. “If a company wanted 100,000 stand-up pouches or more with 100,000 unique designs, digital printing makes that possible.”
With the HP Indigo 200k Digital Press a company could print 100,000 stand-up pouches or more with 100,000 unique designs.“But at the same time, short-runs are a key feature of the digital press, and again will offer our customers a service we are not currently able to offer.”
Printing flexibility
Raltene explains that when Sirane began exploring its next step in printing technology to expand capacity and capability, it was clear the company needed a press that could handle a wide range of substrates and offer good print quality.
“At times, we will use this press purely for the excellent print quality that can be achieved. At other times, it might be variable data or security features. This type of versatility we have not seen from other printing methods or manufacturers,” highlights Ralten.
“As well as flexible packaging, we also have our board division, and the HP Indigo 200K will offer the same printing flexibility on a range of different boards,” he adds.
The new series 5, HP Indigo 200K digital press prints up to 56 m/min (183 fpm) and increases the productivity of high-margin, sustainable short runs of digital flexible and board-based packaging, which can be delivered in days.
Increased speed and productivity
Noam Zilbershtain, vice president and general manager of HP Indigo & Scitex adds: “The HP Indigo 200K is a mid-web digital press specially designed for converters addressing the needs of brands in flexible packaging, but it also serves the growing requirements of the label and shrink sleeve industries for higher productivity and wider format.”
The press showcases a 30% increase in speed and a 45% boost in productivity compared to the HP Indigo 25K. Featuring gravure-matching color quality based on the HP Indigo Liquid Electro Photography and One-Shot Colour technologies, the new press offers the widest available range of ElectroInks.
Sirane is an innovative packaging development-to-manufacture company with expertise in absorbency and material science. The company’s specialisms include board, bags, pouches and film, including traditional flexibles, absorbent products, assembly and fulfillment and plastic replacement.
Ralten concludes: “Sirane offers a huge range of flexible packaging solutions, ranging from paper-based heat-sealable barrier films and recyclable plastics through to traditional flexibles. The HP Indigo 200K will offer something different and exciting to all our flexible packaging customers, no matter what substrate they use.”
