The co. will demonstrate its exclusive Model 5200 RFID label printer/applicator at PACK EXPO 2004. The printer allows for printing, encoding, verifying and applying p-s RFID smart labels to cartons and pallet loads in one operation. The model offers a selection of print engines that utilize thermal/thermal-transfer technology to produce smart labels with text, bar codes and graphics at 203 or 300 dpi. As labels are printed, digital information is encoded on thin, ultra-high frequency (UHF) transponders that are embedded in the smart label material. The encoded information is then verified by the system, which then applies the smart label to the top or side of a carton or a pallet load as it moves via a conveyor. Nonverified labels are rejected. Labels up to 436 in. can be dispensed at up to 12 in./sec and are applied using the tamp/blow method. A retrofit kit is available to upgrade existing Model 5200 units into RFID-capable systems.
