Smurfit Kappa launches its first paper-based child-lock box for laundry pods
29 Oct 2021 --- Smurfit Kappa has developed a child-lock box called Click-to-Lock Pods Box for laundry detergent pods with private label manufacturer McBride.
The paper-based certified child-lock system is tamper-proof and its barrier varnish ensures moisture resistance.
The pack also has 25% more capacity than the previous plastic version and brings efficiencies to the supply chain by facilitating an increased pallet load.
Smurfit Kappa maintains the new packaging solution reduces CO2 emissions by 32% during production and is fully recyclable.
The Click-to-Lock Pods Box is on shelves in France and due to be rolled out across Europe in the coming months.
Paper expansion
Smurfit Kappa’s reach in the paper sector is vast. This month, the company launched a range of circular packaging solutions for the rapidly growing online health and beauty market.
Smurfit Kappa also opened an e-commerce testing lab at its new facility in Northampton, UK. Notably, its 3 L Bag-in-Box packaging design received Amazon’s “Frustration-Free Packaging” certification in April.
In August, Smurfit Kappa invested US$22 million in the expansion of its corrugated plant in Culiacan, Mexico. The facility will produce corrugated boxes made with a moisture barrier that helps resist condensation. Overall, its half-year financial results for 2021 show an 11% rise in revenue compared to last year.
