Sonnentor Uses Natureflex NK for Herbs and Spices
Natureflex is made from wood pulp and is biodegradable and compostable to European EN13432 standards.
24/04/09 Austrian firm Sonnentor has adopted Innovia Films' Natureflex NK compostable film for its range of herbs and spices.
Natureflex is made from wood pulp and is biodegradable and compostable to European EN13432 standards. The NK ranges have improved barrier properties, which Innovia said were similar to co-extruded OPP to wrap dry, moisture-sensitive products.
Sonnetor founder Johannes Gutmann said the Natureflex material fitted in well with the firm's formula of "high quality, carefully selected organic ingredients".
"Natureflex plays an important part in our sustainability and successful future," he said.
Natureflex NK is available in 20-,23-,30- and 40-micron thicknesses and Innovia said it hoped the improved properties would create new opportunities for biodegradeable material.
"With its excellent barrier properties, Natureflex NK fills a major gap in the compostable materials market," said Andy Sweetman, global marketing manager for sustainable technologies.
Sonnentor was set up in Austria's Waldviertel region more than 20 years ago. It employs 100 people and exports 75% of its products.
