Source Tagging Process Embeds RFID Tag in Packaging Material
RFID systems integrator, Domino Integrated Solutions Group (ISG), Dallas, TX, sets up systems to produce RFID-enabled Smart Boxes using HIDE-Pack source tagging process/inlays.
13/10/07 Patent-pending technology from HIDE-Pack, Montreal, QC, Canada, embeds radio frequency identification (RFID) inlays in corrugated cases, folding cartons, envelopes during converting process.
Trials on Flexo Folder Gluer demonstrate speeds of 6,000-18,000 units/hour, no negative effect on productivity, reject rate of 0.1% or less. RFID systems integrator, Domino Integrated Solutions Group (ISG), Dallas, TX, sets up systems to produce RFID-enabled Smart Boxes using HIDE-Pack source tagging process/inlays. Inlay becomes part of packaging medium, is not visible from outside or inside of package. In addition, layers of adhesive encapsulate inlay, preserve its performance under detrimental conditions such as condensation resulting from cold storage.
Compact in-line RFID readers, antenna encode, verify, validate tags. Testing at producer of 100% recycled fiber-based linerboard indicates source-tagged corrugated has no detrimental effect on recycling process. Source tagging eliminates need for smart labels, printer/applicator system, cuts costs of RFID implementation due to reduction in consumables, operational expenses associated with printer-based systems.
