STI Group Draws Attention at the POS
With the Candy Pizza, Look-O-Look strikes a chord with consumers. In just a short period of time, the party fun made from fruit gums was purchased more than a million times in the shops.
Whether it’s for a children’s birthday party, a surprise gift or a party gag - the sweet pizza will thrill both young and old. The product idea was born when Dirk Köhm, Account Manager at Look-O-Look, was at his nephew’s birthday party. The children built a pizza using sweets. The fruit gums manufacturer perfected the idea and got it ready for series production, and now the sweet pizza is available all over Europe. Authenticity was called for in the layout of the packaging. The design was to be reminiscent of the homemade goodies coming out of a pizza chef’s oven.
But since fruit gums are a very sensitive product that quickly absorb the taste and smell of other products, Look-O-Look placed great importance on the choice of packaging suppliers having certification for the production of food-safe packaging.
Tastes good – hygienically clean production
Migration-harmless packaging is needed for direct contact with food. The STI Group’s Alsfeld plant is perfectly suited for this. “Certified according to DIN EN 15593, we stand for good hygiene practice in the packaging industry and confirm the effective implementation of hygiene requirements”, explains Andreas Goldbach, Plant Director in Alsfeld. “The pizza packaging is produced using virgin fibre-board from sustainable forestry. The origin of the packaging can therefore be precisely determined.” Furthermore, the STI Group has relied on the use of migration-harmless inks and lacquers as well as oils and lubricants since 2011. The proof of origin and the cost-effective realisation led to a cooperation with Look-O-Look.

At the STI Group Alsfeld plant, pizza cartons as well as stacking trays for the presentation of several pizza boxes are produced. The shelf-ready packaging solution comes from the parent plant in Lauterbach. In addition to the party hit, the company supplies displays for the fruit gum specialist’s bagged goods. Easy shipment of all the fruity, cheerfully-printed products is guaranteed thanks to the flat transport mode.

This reduces the complexity and thus the costs for the customer.”
The fruit gum pizza is a complete success in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The product was purchased more than a million times after just twelve months and can now be found on the sweets shelves of approximately 15 – and rising – European countries. In line with the motto “sweet and fruity instead of hot and full of fat”, the party hit has conquered the European living and children’s rooms.
