The DreamCap is the only one of the three that has been tailored to the needs of the consumer on the move. It has a high neck that extends over the edge of the pack making it easier for people to drink from the spout.
The cap also has a large (26mm) opening. Tetra Pak said its research suggests this gives people the control and feel they prefer when drinking on the go.
For the home market, Tetra Pak has developed both the LightCap and the HeliCap.
The first is a two-step cap that uses the minimal amount of plastic to keep costs down and improve environmental performance. According to Tetra Pak, it is best suited to larger-sized openings which are easier to handle and pour from.
The carton pack specialist added that the new cap features its Pre-Laminated Hole (PLH) and Direct Injection Moulding Concept (DIMC) technologies together for the first time.
DIMC allows the base of the cap to be moulded as flat as possible to the underside of the packaging material – providing a bigger pouring area. And PLH involves punching a hole in the cardboard during the printing process. When laminating the paperboard the hole is covered with aluminium foil and plastic.
Tetra Pak said the combination makes LightCap ideal for ambient milk and oxygen sensitive drinks like omega-3 enriched milks, juices and iced-tea.
The other new closure is the HeliCap which is designed to combine easy opening with good security features. Tetra Pak claims it has a clearly visible tamper evidence ring that requires a low opening force - just enough for the consumer to feel the tamper ring breaking on the first turn of the cap.
The company claims that the cap offers higher efficiency as well thanks to a simplified machine set up and a 50 per cent reduction in glue consumption.
The new closures were presented to the beverage market for the first time at the Gulfood trade fair in Dubai.
