25/11/2006 A valuable product merits a package with a premium appearance. WALKI PackMetalex is an ideal packaging material for cosmetics, alcoholic beverages and confectionery. The metal coating makes for a shining and luxurious impression, while cardboard gives the package stability.
“Not only does the metal layer contribute to the appearance of the package, it also offers many practical barrier functions. The package offers high moisture, grease and aroma resistance,” says Stefan Erdmann, Technical Sales and R&D Manager at Walki Wisa.
The metallised layer can also be glued on the inside of the cardboard layer to make the inside of the package shiny.
Great potential
WALKI PackMetalex offers various options for special effects. The material is suitable for embossing, which means raising part of the surface. More and more customers are also showing interest in three-dimensional images on their packages.
“Holograms can be used efficiently to draw attention to products on store shelves,” explains Erdmann. He sees great potential for WALKI PackMetalex in the Nordic countries, where packaging has traditionally been on the simple side.
“The material also works well for pharmaceutical products. Many countries have relaxed legislation to allow certain pharmaceuticals, such as vitamin supplements, to be sold in grocery stores. When the selection of products is left to the customer, the appearance of the package often becomes the decisive factor,” says Erdmann.
