Weekly Roundup: Südpack unveils waste-preventing meat packaging, Camvac relaunches Thermal Laminate portfolio
05 Jun 2020 --- In packaging news this week, Südpack launched two mono-material packaging solutions based on polypropylene (PP) for minced meat packaging. The re-launch of Camvac’s Thermal Laminate improved on the product range’s quality and materials performance. In business developments, Silgan Holdings acquired the dispensing business of the Albéa Group, while Syntegon Technology recently joined the Open Serialization Communication Standard (OPEN-SCS) Group.
In brief: Launches and releases
Aiming for increased recyclability, Südpack revealed two new PP-based mono-material packaging solutions for minced meat. The trays omit the use of bottom trays, which lowers material consumption. The Flow Pack PurePP film, on the one hand, achieves material savings of up to 60 percent compared to tray packaging. On the other hand, its resealable Multipeel PurePP film has a recyclability rate of 95 percent.
Südpack's new minced meat packaging is made from mono materials and therefore easily recyclable.
Barrier films supplier Camvac re-launched its Thermal Laminate product range to enhance product performance. The metalized triplex Thermal Laminate range is part of the Camplex product portfolio and is predominantly used to manufacture Bag-in-Box and bulk liquid packaging solutions. The thermal lamination is a key tool used to provide seal strength, integrity and flexibility, which are instrumental in the packing and transportation of liquids. The re-launch aims to continue the company’s strides in revolutionizing the Bag-in-Box and bulk liquid packaging marketplace.
Innovia Films launched Encore, a new family of recyclable biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films. The company affirms that the new packaging delivers on high clarity and gloss, high stiffness, a good water vapor barrier and printability despite being made from renewable raw materials that are not based on food. The first two grades of Encore film to be launched will be a low-temperature heat seal film for packaging and one for pressure-sensitive labeling applications.
BakerLabels is now offering samples of its digitally printed stand-up pouches called BakPac, which cater to the food, sports nutrition, pet care and personal care markets. The pouches offer texturized, thermally laminated finishes, including soft-touch, matte, gloss, linen and leather. Options such as zippers and tear notches are available. The company also offers multi-web pouches, which enables different materials and finishes to be used on the face, reverse and gusset.
Silgan Holdings, a supplier of sustainable rigid packaging solutions for consumer goods products, completed its acquisition of the dispensing business of the Albéa Group. The purchase price for this acquisition was US$900 million, subject to adjustments outlined in the purchase agreement for this acquisition. Albéa Group supplies highly engineered pumps, sprayers and foam dispensing solutions to major branded consumer goods product companies primarily in the beauty and personal care markets. It operates a global network of ten plants across North America, Europe, South America and Asia. This business generated sales of approximately US$395 million in 2019.
