Closure design for six varieties of shelf-stable, pasteurized, ready-to-eat Del Monte fruit from CanGro Foods, Inc., Toronto, ON, Canada, results in 20% lighter container.
30/11/2007 Wide-mouth polypropylene (PP) jar from Graham Packaging Co., LP, York, PA, with three-part closure system from Bapco Closures, Ltd., Guildford, Surrey, UK, simplifies filling, makes it easier for consumers to include fruit with meals.
Closure design for six varieties of shelf-stable, pasteurized, ready-to-eat Del Monte fruit from CanGro Foods, Inc., Toronto, ON, Canada, results in 20% lighter container. Elimination of threads, reduction in neck finish, wall thickness help lightweight 540-millilitre (19-ounce) container. Closure measures 82 millimetres in diameter, consists of foil membrane; base ring with threads around upper outer circumference, pull ring attached to inner wall; threaded overcap for resealing. Assembly snaps in place over bead on container. Induction sealing fuses membrane to neck finish to create secure vacuum seal.
“CanGro Foods’ Mark Hagar, director of R&D/Quality, is particularly pleased with sealability, diameter of Graham/Bapco design. “The system seals on one surface and peels or opens on a separate one,” he explains. “This eliminates the trade-off that occurs with conventional conduction sealing where peeling and sealing occur on the same surface. The large opening is great for the processor to fill the food product and for the consumer to remove it.”
