Worldwide Dispensers Tap Gives Bag-in-Box Wine Longer Life
Worldwide Dispensers said the tap would enable a greater variety of wine types to be packed in the bag-in-box format.
19/10/2007 Bag-in-box wine could stay fresh for more than four months with a new type of tap developed by Worldwide Dispensers.
The London-based division of DS Smith Plastics said its new ViniPlus system featured a “greatly improved oxygen barrier” that protects the quality of unopened wine more effectively than current designs, keeping it drinkable for up to 140 days.
The barrier is created by the application of a barrier film on the rear of the plastic tap, which is pierced the first time it is opened.
Worldwide Dispensers said the tap would enable a greater variety of wine types to be packed in the bag-in-box format.
The firm also said the tap had a number of consumer convenience features, including a self-closing one-handed front push button that lets the user control the flow direction, and a tear away cap around the button that provides tamper evidence. A special valve also seals the outlet after every use, preventing any residue from remaining in the spout.
