Chesapeake Corporation's (NYSE:CSK) Field Group subsidiary recently developed a striking new polypropylene gift carton for The Famous Grouse, a leading brand of Scotch whisky from the Edrington Group. This new pack features excellent product visibility and a large surface area for printing. The graphics are printed in six colors and incorporate a vignette with solid color saturation to maximize graphic impact. "Our new carton for The Famous Grouse effectively combines robust constructional design and technically demanding litho printing," said Paul Scotter, sales director for Field's Bradford, England operation. "That combination provides strong shelf impact in a highly competitive market." Field pioneered the groundbreaking technology required to produce machine erectable creases for polypropylene cartons and has filed for an international patent on the technology. The creases formed are both measurable and controllable, thus allowing the packaging to run efficiently on high-speed automated lines in large volumes. As a result, polypropylene cartons can now support the requirements of global brands. "Our polypropylene cartons have the strength and rigidity for a wide range of markets, including confectionery, personal care and alcoholic drinks," added Scotter. "We've worked hard to extend our skills in the conversion of transparent packaging materials, which provide our customers more options and differentiation for high-volume brands." Chesapeake Corporation is a leading international supplier of value-added specialty paperboard and plastic packaging with headquarters in Richmond, Va. The company is one of Europe's premier suppliers of folding cartons, leaflets and labels, as well as plastic packaging for niche markets. Chesapeake has more than 50 locations in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia and employs approximately 6,000 people worldwide.
