Constar Wins 2006 Plastic Packaging Product Innovation Leadership of the Year Award

03/11/06 Constar International Inc. has been selected to receive the 2006 Plastic Packaging Product Innovation Leadership of the Year Award by the prestigious global growth consulting firm, Frost & Sullivan. Recognized for its innovation in PET (polyethylene terephthalate) packaging, Constar successfully attained this honor for CONSTruct Advanced Predictive Engineering and the Oxbar oxygen scavenger technologies.
Constar has customized conventional Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to develop its proprietary CONSTruct software to incorporate performance and material properties for faster and more accurate predictions. When applied to PET bottle design CONSTruct Advanced Predictive Engineering helps to determine optimal weight and performance with less need for costly redesign and test iterations. This allows for a more aesthetically pleasing bottle design. "We were thrilled to be recognized for our numerous technological advances in the PET packaging market including CONSTruct Advanced Predictive Engineering," said Donald Deubel, Constar's Vice President of Corporate Technologies. Packaging firms are working to acquire new customers and retaining current ones by employing creative growth strategies. Unlike passive barrier systems for plastic packaging, Oxbar and MonOxbar are active materials, and automatically adjust themselves to help counter changes in temperature. Thus, the packaged, oxygen-sensitive product is provided more consistent protection, despite temperature excursions during distribution.
