Ferrero India launches new pouch packaging for “premium yet affordable gifting”
08 Aug 2023 --- Ferrero Rocher Moments is revamping its packaging in India with pouches available in factory-packed hangsells and shelf-ready dispensers at modern and traditional trade and e-commerce platforms. The launch addresses consumer needs for self-consumption, sharing and gifting purposes.
The premium essence and design codes of the original Ferrero Rocher are maintained in the new packs through gold-colored packaging and contemporary design patterns. It is available in sizes 8-, 16- and 32-pieces. The packs come in an easy-to-share premium gifting pack crafted to make the brand relevant not only during festivals but to “celebrate everyday occasions.”
“We continue to evolve our product offering based on research and insights,” says Zoher Kapuswala, marketing head of Pralines, Tic Tac and Nutella at Ferrero India.
“The new Ferrero Rocher Moments packaging introduces premium yet affordable options for sharing, self-indulgence and gifting options for our customers. The revamped pack range and different pack sizes for Ferrero Rocher Moments will amplify the joy of consumers by creating lasting memories for all.”
Manufactured at Ferrero India’s plant in Pune, almost 80% of the raw materials for Ferrero Rocher Moments are sourced locally. The design has been elevated to add a premium look to Ferrero Rocher Moments, making it an affordable gifting option.
Confectionery developments
Walki and Rovema recently designed a paper pouch for confectionery to replace plastic. Candy pouches are hung on metal hooks and are “almost always made of plastic.” In past iterations of using paper-based packaging for confectionery products, paper pouches have not been able to sustain the weight of its contents, resulting in the bags dropping on the supermarket floor.
The companies developed a reinforced euro-hole pouch to keep the packaging intact and environmentally sustainable. Walki applied an extra strip on the area above the euro hole. The double layers strip is invisible to consumers but works as a safety belt for the paper pouch.
Earlier this year, Packaging Insights spoke to confectionery packaging experts from Nestlé and Ritter Sport about emerging industry trends.
Katja Binder, head of packaging development at Ritter Sport, told us that current key trends in the confectionery packaging industry depend on the market. “For Europe, the key trends are still tending to more [environmentally] sustainable packaging. Therefore, we are talking about paper or paper-based packaging and at the same time, recyclability is getting increasingly important.”
“The Asian market, for example, is not yet as demanding [environmentally sustainable packaging] as the European market. Here, the expectations of European consumers have so far been higher than those of Asian consumers.”
Furthermore, at industry event ProSweets 2023, we spoke to Dr. Markus Schmid, institute director of the Sustainable Packaging Institute at the Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences, Germany, who highlighted that packaging companies in the confectionery and snack sectors should focus on keeping the product inside the wrapping as fresh as possible while using raw materials to create the packaging. The two together aim to reduce the impact of food waste and packaging.
“The objectives are optimizing bio-based packaging, developing new technologies, using post-consumer waste to upcycle them in different applications and developing new standard and certification systems for recyclable, biodegradable plastics,” said Schmid.
