Hébert Group adopts PulPac’s Dry Molded Fiber tech for plastic-replacement production
28 Feb 2022 --- Packaging company Hébert Group is using PulPac’s Dry Molded Fiber technology at its new production site in Orgelet, France. Dry Molded Fiber, invented and owned by PulPac, is a fiber-forming technology that can replace single-use plastic packaging and items with cost-competitive fiber-based alternatives.
To accelerate the shift, PulPac has together with partners developed the PulPac Modula standardized machine platform. The company is on a mission to replace single-use plastics at scale, and this is a first in a stream of Dry Molded Fiber machinery rolling out to licensees, setting a new standard for fiber-based packaging.
Dry Molded Fiber can be used to produce replacements for popular throwaway plastic items like cutlery, plates, straws, beverage cups and food containers.
Partnering with Hébert Group
Hébert Group says it has a history of innovation, with environmental sustainability a key driver. With expertise in thin wall packaging and in-mold labeling, the company supports some of the biggest brands in the global food industry.
Julien Hébert, technical and sales director at Hébert Group, says: “We believe that the packaging industry is entering a new era driven by fast-evolving regulatory systems and customer expectations.”
“Our collaboration with PulPac will allow us to develop and manufacture truly competitive fiber-based solutions. PulPac’s pioneering technology is not only about strengthening our offering and our customers’ brands, but also about leading the way in our industry.”
Sanna Fager, chief commercial officer at PulPac, adds: “We are truly impressed by Hébert Group’s innovative mindset and ability to adapt to new technology, which has created very solid partnerships with some of the biggest names in the global food industry.”
“We look forward to a long-term partnership where we can share know-how and expertise to leverage the full potential of dry molding within Hébert Group’s operations and customer network.”
Last year, PulPac announced that the European Patent Office intended to grant the Dry Molder Fiber specialist a general patent. Hereby, Europe became the third major region – after the US and Japan – to confirm PulPac’s ownership of the process of dry molding cellulose fibers.
The company also unveiled the “world’s first” Dry Molded Fiber standardized production unit for manufacturing cost-effective, fiber-based alternatives to single-use plastics items, including food-grade applications.
Meanwhile, PulPac and Scandicore recently developed “the world’s first” paper tube lids made with Dry Molded Fiber technology. An online European art prints store will introduce the plastic-free, fiber-based packaging from Scandicore.
In related news, Novolex brand Eco-Products, a provider of foodservice packaging made from renewable or recycled content, is introducing fiber-based solutions. Eco-Products’ Vanguard packaging does not contain PFAS and avoids known regrettable substitutes.
