- CoLOS Version 7 adds centralized management, automated approval workflows, audit trails, stronger security, and multi-site visibility to reduce errors and downtime.

Markem-Imaje, part of Dover Corporation, has launched CoLOS Software Version 7, expanding its software suite with new features engineered for industrial organizations with multiple production facilities.
The solution is said to build on earlier releases with stronger automation, compliance, and security features. Its improved operations also support enhancing efficiency and reducing errors. CoLOS also follows global standards for marking and coding, including 1D/2D barcodes, and is compliant with the GS1 Digital Link (GS1DL).
Lakshmi Menon, product communications specialist at Markem-Imaje, tells Packaging Insights: “Smart labeling transforms traditional static 1D labeling on packaging into a digital touchpoint through technologies such as 2D QR codes with GS1DL, creating a connection between manufacturers, retailers, and consumers.”

“As part of Sunrise 2027, the movement from static 1D code printing is transitioning into dynamic GS1DL-compliant 2D Codes. As adoption grows, smart labels are enabling many use cases like digital regulatory compliance, richer consumer engagement, end-to-end product traceability, faster product recalls, etc.”
“They also simplify compliance initiatives such as the EU’s Digital Product Passport and Food Safety Modernization Act 204 compliance requirements from the US.”
Centralized management
Menon shares that CoLOS Version 7 provides the capability to design fully compliant GS1DL codes with the ability to introduce dynamic information from production, such as best before date, lot number, batch number, and unique code.
“CoLOS software Version 7 enables manufacturers to centrally manage and govern labeling operations across multiple factories and production locations. Through configurable automated approval workflows, only approved label designs are released to production, helping organizations maintain brand consistency, reduce labeling errors, and minimize the risk of costly recalls or compliance violations.”
He adds: “Every approval action is digitally tracked, creating a complete audit trail that can help customers simplify the regulatory inspections and compliance reporting. The regional teams retain the flexibility to configure workflows that align with local regulatory and language requirements.”
CoLOS Version 7 supports organizations in moving production software systems to a central IT infrastructure with added confidence.“This balance of control and flexibility helps global manufacturers standardize labeling processes, improve operational efficiency, and ensure that only compliant designs reach the production line.”
Enhanced security
CoLOS Version 7 is also developed to reduce downtime and features a responsive web user interface. Menon points out that the new CoLOS multi-site feature enables comprehensive visibility into production efficiency and supports flexible scaling as operations expand.
“CoLOS Version 7 builds rich consumer experience with the CoLOS 2D feature that helps manufacturers scale-up smart labeling initiatives through a secure, highly available, and centrally managed platform,” says Menon.
“This allows organizations to protect critical labeling data, maintain uninterrupted production operations, and deploy smart labeling programs consistently across multiple sites while reducing compliance and operational risks.”
CoLOS Version 7 is available for use with the complete range of Markem-Imaje printers in on-premises and cloud-based subscription models.
