Two of Europe’s most successful packaging automation suppliers, G.Mondini Ltd and Ulma Packaging Ltd, have joined forces to provide a single complete-line packaging solution to both the food and non-food sectors in the UK.
The newly merged company, G.Mondini-Ulma Ltd, brings together Mondini UK and Ulma UK with the aim of delivering world class manufacturing excellence, coupled with exceptional customer service for which both are already individually acknowledged.
One of the key reasons for the UK merger is the ability to assemble a team of experts, recognised for their technical talent and customer service skills, to provide dynamic automated packaging solutions for companies in sectors such as food and drink.
G.Mondini, a family-owned business, is acknowledged for its outstanding tray-sealing technology from Italy, while Spanish-owned Ulma is a workers’ co-operative renowned for thermoforming packaging lines and flow wrappers that have become the main-stay for many food manufacturing processes across the world.
Both businesses have over 40 years of expertise in their chosen markets and believe that by combining their proven engineering excellence they can take a market-leading role by helping boost production efficiencies through supplying integrated packaging solutions, utilising the most sophisticated robotic technology.
James Dallas, the newly-appointed managing director of G Mondini-Ulma, said that, as the two companies already had a complimentary product mix and had worked together in the past to provide full line solutions, there was compelling business logic for the amalgamation.
Mr Dallas commented: “These are exciting times and I am thrilled at being asked to lead G.Mondini-Ulma – two names synonymous with packaging automation excellence. Having a ‘one operation, one solution’ set-up gives us a unique opportunity to expand our market position by providing vibrant solutions to all packaging opportunities.”
As part of the changes G.Mondini and Ulma will relocate their services to new state-of-the-art facilities at Stone, in Staffordshire, though the company says that the move will not lead to any job losses.
However, the agreement is more than just a name change, with G Mondini-Ulma confident that by coming together it will have an advantage over its competitors by having the in-house skills to offer complete, reliable and cost-effective packaging automation solutions, while its unique research and development facilities will ensure innovative products that meet the challenges of a continually changing and demanding manufacturing landscape.
The UK merger is also to act as a blueprint for further harmonisation of the companies’ operations in other countries, such as France, South Africa, Australia, Russia and Japan, over the next three years as the new company targets further growth in areas including bakery, red meat, poultry, fish, ready meals and fresh produce.
