New Concentrated Desiccant Doubles Moisture Protection for Pharmaceuticals

Buffalo, NY, USA – Multisorb Technologies Ltd. announces a new breakthrough in pharmaceutical package protection with the introduction of a new concentrated sorbent, Multiform™ Coated Solid Form (CSF) desiccants. Utilizing condensed density technology, the Multiform CSF sorbent is shaped like a traditional desiccant canister, and delivers twice the moisture protection in the same amount of dimensional space. Formed in the exact dimensions of a desiccant canister, Multiform CSF runs on the same dispensing equipment without recalibration. In so doing, it delivers twice the adsorbing capacity in half the space.
The Multiform CSF sorbent concentrates silica gel, activated carbon, or a combination of both for superior protection against moisture and VOC’s. As a concentrated solid with no lid, it eliminates any danger of loose fill desiccant contaminating production line. It can be substituted for canisters using the existing dispensing equipment on pharmaceutical packaging lines, and its smooth, edge-free coating eliminates any potential jamming in machinery. As the name implies, the Multiform CSF sorbent can be also be manufactured into a variety of shapes and sizes, enabling its use for myriad pharmaceutical and medical diagnostic applications. The proprietary coating prevents any chalking or residue from the molded desiccant.
The Multiform CSF sorbent effectively eliminates "double drops" of desiccants into packaging, reducing space requirements and production time. While it is particularly well-suited for drug therapies requiring extra moisture protection, it can be used for any application where canisters or desiccant packets are currently in use. It also offers a means of protection for new drugs entering the market that may have previously been too unstable.
The Multiform CSF sorbent is available in one-gram and two-gram canister configurations along with an infinite number of custom shapes. Multisorb can precision-shape the Multiform CSF into a variety of sizes and configurations, giving manufacturers and brand managers a new set of options. For example, the material can be shaped to "snap" into a pharmaceutical bottle cap, or a form can be shaped and "friction-fitted" into the housing of a diagnostic test kit. The sorbent’s smooth surface also allows clear printing of warning labels on all sides including the top and bottom of canister shapes.
