03/10/08 Plus Pack has recently developed a completely new packaging concept for airline meals. It is a two compartments tray, presenting a special base to hold a coffee cup, juice/yogurt, cutlery and cold convenience foods such as sandwich or salad. The tray is made of clear APET with a frosted wave design on the sidewalls.
The tray is sealed and has a capacity of 1.377 ml (937 + 440 ml) and dimensions of 247 x 128 x 64 mm. The combination of the optimized outer dimensions and the clever compartmental design has led to a reduction in "total costs" of close to 30% for the airline company. The space optimized dimensions make it possible to double the number of trays per in-flight trolley, thus eliminating one provisioning per return flight. The compartmental design has eliminated the packaging of the individual food components (sandwich, sweets etc.) and instead allow for bulk shipments and central assembly/filling of the trays.
The tray is easy to serve/handle for the caterer and for the flight personnel and is very convenient for the passengers on board.
