P&G’s Gain launches refillable Power Blast Dish Spray in recyclable bottle
11 Feb 2022 --- Procter and Gamble’s (P&G) Gain brand is introducing a recyclable dish spray dubbed Gain Power Blast Dish Spray, which can be refilled from a reusable bottle.
Since water isn’t needed until the final rinse step, Gain says consumers use up to 50% less water compared to running the tap while hand washing dishes. Additionally, since Gain Power Blast Dish Spray is designed as a refill model, with a reusable sprayer and easy-to-swap refill bottle, the company says consumers can enhance their dishwashing experience while saving both time and water while minimizing waste.
“Gain Power Blast Dish Spray was strategically created to help people save water, time, and effort without sacrificing the clean they need. Since Gain Power Blast doesn’t require water until the final rinse step, it helps people use up to 50% less water compared to running the tap while hand washing dishes,” says Jennifer Lo, brand director for North America Hand Dish at P&G, to PackagingInsights.
“Additionally, we have designed Gain Power Blast as a refill model, so the sprayer can be reused instead of being discarded after each use. The Gain Power Blast bottle is widely recyclable through curbside recycling,” she adds.
P&G works with organizations like The Alliance to End Plastic Waste and the Materials Recovery for the Future project to improve access to recycling. It also includes How2Recycle logos on its packaging.
When asked about differences from previous solutions, Lo says: “Gain Power Blast Dish Spray provides people with a more sensorial and delightful way to clean dishes. The pressurized trigger blasts out a continuous spray of scent-packed suds that cling to dishes, begin dissolving food on contact, and loosen grease for ultra-clean dishes.”
“This new product is also uniquely designed with Aroma Boost which allows the scent of Gain to bloom throughout the kitchen and linger long after the dishes are done, allowing people to get a great clean, with an even better smell [compared to Gain liquid dish soap].
Gain’s new dish spray offers an improved scent solution and claims to make dishwashing “a more enjoyable experience by blasting away grease for “ultra” clean dishes and infusing the kitchen with a longer-lasting scent of Gain, compared to traditional Gain liquid dish soap.”
Happy dishwashing
To better understand the connection between Gain dish soap and overall happiness, Gain commissioned a “State of Happiness” survey of 1,700 people. Some key findings from the survey include Gain users being almost twice as likely to find dishwashing “very enjoyable” compared to non-Gain users.
Furthermore, the survey states 37% of Gain users are more likely to say good-smelling dish soap aids in boosting their mood. In addition, Gain users described washing their dishes as “a meditation session,” “a stress reliever,” and even “being on cloud 9,” expressing that it makes their time spent at the sink the “ultimate happy place”.
Technical challenges
Gain Power Blast Dish Spray is designed with Aroma Boost technology that helps users to get a clean and better smell, which also allows Gain’s scent to “bloom” throughout the kitchen and “linger long” after the dishes are done.
“We had to be incredibly precise to ensure we got the scent they [consumers] know and love just right, only in a new dish spray form. To that end, our biggest challenge was indisputably how we could deliver scent longevity even after dishes are complete,” says Lo.
“Based on our extensive research, when consumers were asked to describe their ideal scent experience, they stated that they want to have the scent filling their kitchen versus smelling only at the sink while washing dishes.”
Fairy, also a P&G brand, has transitioned to an upside-down bottle with “patented leak guard technology.” The washing up liquid also boasts an improved formula and in-built dosing mechanism to moderate use and reduce mess and waste. The bottle is reportedly fully recyclable and made from 100% post-consumer recycled material.
Furthermore, Mondi is equipping Henkel with a “keep-at-home” refillable pump dispenser for its hand dishwashing products, which can be used to refill plastic bottles from flexible pouches also produced by the packaging giant.
