Boca Raton, Fla. - September 27, 2004 - ADT Security Services Inc., a part of Tyco Fire & Security, today announced that it has begun taking orders for its intelligent, cost effective RFID reader, which is based on Intel® IXP42X network processors and Thing Magic's Mercury 4® platform. RFID readers are used to record the information from RFID tags. Last year, Wal-Mart asked its top 100 suppliers to put RFID tags on all pallets and cartons coming into its distribution centers and stores by January 2005. The United States Department of Defense, Target, Albertsons and other retailers have made similar requests of their suppliers. Driven by the Intel IXP42X network processor, the Sensormatic Agile 2 reader can support up to 16 RFID antennas lowering a customer's installation and equipment costs by reducing the total number of readers needed. The Agile 2 reader also offers the flexibility of operating in multi-frequencies and multi-protocols. Wireless connectivity and expanded communication ports further reduce overall RFID implementation costs.
