Atwell Labellers, of South Godstone, Surrey, has come up with a solution for labelling unusual shaped bottles - front and back - with accuracy. Broadoak Toiletries in Devon needed to replace inconsistent hand labelling of Floris inward 'V' profile glass bottles. The multi-station AL120S Front/Back labeller uses shaped holding pucks to hold bottles in place at each station. Special vacuum units lift labels from the backing paper which then slide and traverse through 90 degrees onto each surface. Positioning relies on 'V' shaped vacuum pads that match angles and curves on the bottle faces, with accuracy within 0.5mm. Pre-programmed parameters minimise downtime, says Atwell, and key lock access prevents unauthorised operator access or parameter changes. The labelling requirement was "very difficult and unusual", said Simon Atwell, director, but the outcome suits the customer, to a 'V'.
