Stora Enso has launched the Trayforma Brown, a fiber-based and unbleached foodservice tray that aims to respond to consumer demand for a premium natural appearance.
It is reportedly the first of its kind to also support oven heating and can withstand temperatures up to 220 degrees Celsius with a transparent PET coating.
The tray is suitable for ready meals, bakery, chilled, and frozen food products, and is also available with a high-barrier BarrPeel solution for vacuum-skin packaging.
Jaana Tani, technical account manager at Trayforma, says: “For our customers, the natural look of a brown board is increasingly relevant, but not at the cost of performance. With Trayforma Brown, they don’t have to make that trade-off.”
Lightweighting products
Stora Enso has also reduced the base weight of its Trayforma tray range, which aims to contribute to a reduced carbon footprint.
“With our advancements in lightweighting Trayforma, everyone in the value chain benefits from better yield,” adds Tani.
Both innovations incorporate a three-ply structure with a CTMP middle layer, which helps to reduce basis weight and maintain board thickness, according to Stora Enso.
Trayforma Brown and the lightweight Trayforma range will be presented at Interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany (May 7–13).
Recently, Stora Enso introduced Performa Lumi, a lightweight folding boxboard for personal care packaging. The solution is made using the company’s FiberLight technology, which enables durability and lightweight structures.
In material innovation developments, last year the company partnered with Krekelberg Flock Products and Flocktechniek–C&B Innovations, to produce Papira, a plastic-free packaging foam made from wood cellulose.
