Tetra Pak is now offering its Tetra Fino Aseptic 200ml and 250ml packages with straw holes, following successful consumer trials in China. "The use of a drinking straw with this portion pack has proved to be extremely popular with consumers," said Uros Kepic, Product Manager, Tetra Fino Aseptic. The Tetra Fino Aseptic (TFA) system is used for packaging white and flavoured milk and soya beverages, particularly in markets where low cost, low waste packaging systems are replacing un-packed beverage distribution. Straw holes provide extra consumer convenience and are also expected to prove a favourable alternative where TFA packages are used in school feeding programs. At the start of this year Tetra Fino Aseptic lines were in operation in more than 25 countries in Asia, Africa, South America and Eastern Europe. The principal advantage of the Tetra Fino Aseptic system is its lower cost. For food processors, the TFA system provides a low-cost aseptic processing and packaging system to help transfer low-profit un-packed or 'street' milk and other still drinks, into aseptic packs. Moving to aseptic packaging for un-packed products improves overall distribution efficiency and hygiene, helps the processor create brands, develop customer loyalty, and build sales. For wholesale distributors and retailers, the system offers products with shelf lives of six to 10 weeks, at ambient storage temperatures - while the shelf life of unpacked milk, for example, is measured in hours. And for the consumer, the benefit is accessibility to safe, hygienic milk and still drinks, with the assurance of top quality at an affordable price. Tetra Fino Aseptic packages are formed and filled using a Tetra Pak TFA/3 packaging machine, which can handle 200ml and 250ml packages at a speed of 4,500 per hour. Distribution systems for TFA packages include cardboard cartons and plastic boxes. The straws can be included in bundles within these secondary packages. Manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic solutions are available to pack the cartons or boxes.
