ROMACO, of Huntingdon, has launched a carton printer from its Hapa division, designed to print folding cartons in-house, just-in-time and on demand. Dubbed the H-350 UV flexo carton printer, it prints onto single, pre-cut flat cardboard cartons sized up to 420 x 500mm, with up to four colours (PMS/CMYK), plus a covering lacquer. With an output from 120 to 360 cartons/minute, the printer can be connected directly to certain cartoning machines, or combined with a folding-gluing unit to produce finished cartons suitable for use with any type of cartoning machine. If used off-line, this provides an in-house print shop capable of serving several conventional packaging lines. The carton in-feed section features three adjustable magazines each holding around 600 blank cartons. When running, the magazines move automatically into position inside the transfer section where vacuum suction cups take the cartons to the transport belt inside the printing section. Gripped securely to the belt by vacuum, this provides the stability needed for accurate registration between successive print stations. Easily adjustable for quick changeovers, the printer is fully validated and equipped with in-line print presence control units for use in pharmaceutical packaging.
