UPM launches adhesives for pharma, wine and industrial labels

UPM has unveiled UPM PharmaSure for pharmaceuticals, UPM Vetro for wine and spirits, and UPM Endurance for oil and industrial chemicals, delivering tailored adhesive performance for each end-use.
The purpose-built solutions are part of the UPM Raflatac label material offering. The company says that demanding label applications require adhesives beyond the capabilities of general-purpose solutions. Different environments carry varying technical requirements, regulatory contexts, and consequences when a label fails.
Christian Szameit, senior VP Global Markets at UPM Adhesive Materials, says: “With demanding label applications, adhesive selection is a critical decision. Our purpose-built adhesive solutions help our customers choose the right performance for their end-use.”
Meeting different requirements
UPM shares that pharmaceutical packaging needs to maintain integrity through sterilization cycles, cold-chain storage, and small-diameter vials. Wine and spirits labels should be capable of confronting humidity, chilled display, and ice bucket immersion.
The company furthers that industrial labels require the ability to hold on to “challenging substrates under chemical exposure, mechanical strain, and hot-fill conditions.”
“UPM PharmaSure, UPM Vetro, and UPM Endurance address the range of conditions relevant to each respective industry and are supported by pre-assessed performance data and application documentation. This supports qualification and regulatory processes for converters and brand owners,” states the company.
Earlier this year, UPM Adhesive Materials opened a slitting and distribution terminal near New Delhi, India, expanding its presence in the emerging market.
Last year, the company invested in a coating line and other upgrades in its label material factory in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Recently, UPM Adhesive Materials expanded its US production capacity for advanced labels with new coating technology. The material supplier is making the investment at its factory in Mills River, North Carolina.
