THE world's first food and beverage line metal detection system designed to stand up to high pressure washdown has been launched by the Weighing & Inspection business unit of Thermo Electron, of Rugby. The Goring Kerr DSP-IP has set a new global standard by meeting IP69k, a washdown rating originally developed for the automotive industry. The standard specifies proof against ingress of water from jets at 2000psi pressure and at temperatures of up to 95°C. As well as allowing more thorough cleansing, it is time saving compared with the usual method of protecting vulnerable parts with plastic covers to avoid costly damage, the company said. Based on the Goring Kerr DSP3 range of digital signal processing detectors, the machine features a stainless steel membrane keyboard, said to be unique to the system. The Goring Kerr DSP-IP is the first piece of equipment to carry evidence of a new corporate branding strategy. All the different brands of instruments, components and systems - Thermo Goring Kerr, Thermo Allen Coding, Thermo Ramsey, Thermo Moisture Systems and Thermo Detection - are now being supplied under the banner Thermo Electron Corporation. The familiar brand names will form part of each model's identification details.
