Weekly Roundup: PulPac extends Dry Molded Fiber patents, TekniPlex Consumer Products introduces dip tubing to India

PulPac expanded its Dry Molded Fiber patent portfolio. The new patent applications are directed to ejection elements in connection to the forming mold. The main purpose of the ejection elements is to release the product from mold parts for removal of the products. The ejection elements can also be used for imprinting a pattern in the product to be read or scanned for information purposes.
Kabuto Noodles introduced “the lowest use of plastic” in the UK premium instant noodle category with a new 100% recyclable K3 cardboard-plastic cup from Greiner Packaging. The new 65 g K3 lightweight thermoformed cup uses over 40% less material than the previous cup and is wrapped with a removable cardboard outer layer. Due to its reduced plastic content, K3 also has an improved carbon footprint and can be recycled efficiently, as the cardboard and plastic can be easily separated, said the company.
Mondi announced an extensive range of Pergraphica Colours was listed with paper merchant WL Coller as of June 13 2022. Pergraphica Colours is suited for premium creative design, publishing and luxury packaging applications. The product is cradle to cradle certified bronze and CO2 neutral.

TekniPlex Consumer Products introduced dip tubing capabilities to its manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad, India. This installation adds to TekniPlex’s pre-existing capacities in Belgium, China, and the US, allowing the company to better serve both regional and global customer and dispensing pump market needs. This new capability aligns with the growing need for pump packaging and related dip tubing needs in India.
Cremer introduced its HQS 1250 Counting & Dispensing Machine, designed specifically for gummy applications in the nutraceutical and confectionary sectors. Drawing on over 40 years of experience in the pharmaceutical market, Cremer developed the gummy solution in partnership with filler manufacturer Spee-Dee. The new 12-lane counter can precisely apportion gummies of all shapes and sizes to a downstream bottler or single belt setup. With an average output of 150 bottles per minute on a 60-count gummy product, the HQS 1250 is ideal for a wide variety of gummies in typical sanded or sugared formulations.

Silgan Dispensing announced a partnership with Shiseido to support the design and development of the beauty company’s new product, Le Beau Reset Balancing Floral Mist – part of Shiseido’s new Ulé skincare line. The new product utilizes Silgan Dispensing’s SP22 Maximist fine mist sprayer, incorporating a high percentage of post-consumer recycled resin to support Shiseido’s commitment to eco-friendly packaging and materials.
Taiwan banned polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from food packaging. The goal is to prevent harmful chemicals from leaching into food and the environment. Beginning in July 2023, PVC cannot be used in the manufacturing, importation, or sale of food-packaging materials. Anyone who is caught selling food packaging containing PVC will be fined between NT$1,200 (US$40.74) and NT$6,000 (US$201.91), and those caught manufacturing or importing these items will be fined between NT$60,000 (US$2,019.08) and NT$300,000 (US$10,095.40).

Hoffmann Neopac continued its organization-wide sustainability initiative with a sizable solar power panel installation at its manufacturing facility in Debrecen, Hungary. Also in Debrecen, Neopac undertook a materials reuse program in which waste from its signature Polyfoil tubes will be utilized by a local company to produce new solar panels for use throughout the city. The effort exemplifies Neopac’s commitment to moving toward comprehensive green manufacturing practices.

Berlin Packaging announced the acquisition of Vidrierías Pérez Campos SL, a family-owned Spanish distributor of glass packaging for the olive oil, home fragrance, and spirits markets. “The olive oil industry is key for the Iberian market. The strategic acquisition of Vidrierías Pérez Campos extends our coverage to southern Spain. The company also possesses expertise in home fragrances and spirits, other important end-markets for Berlin Packaging,” said Paolo Recrosio, CEO of Berlin Packaging EMEA.
