Amcor invests in recyclable packaging facility in Italy

Amcor Flexibles is expanding the production capacity of its Lugo di Vicenza factory in Italy by installing a new manufacturing line, laboratory, and warehouse. The facility produces high-barrier recycle-ready films for packaging formats.
At the upgraded factory, Amcor can produce films such as its AmLite HeatFlex material for retort, high heat applications. The films are used to create lidding and pouches for F&B, pet food, and healthcare packaging.
The automated and high-density warehouse, featuring temperature-controlled chambers for the curing of materials to ensure the consistency and quality of the final packaging solution.
Elena Peron, plant general manager at Amcor Flexible Lugo, says: “The new facility is the result of Amcor’s pledge to develop all our packaging to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable.”
“This expansion, combined with the Amcor team’s expertise, will support our customers in making the switch to recycle-ready packaging and contribute to a more circular packaging industry.”
Responding to EU needs
Amcor says its recyclable and high-performance packaging can support brands in meeting the requirements laid out in the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
“Amcor has positioned itself ahead of the curve, providing brands with recycle-ready solutions that help them get ready for PPWR, and meet rising consumer demand for improved sustainability.”
Last month, the company released a survey that found that EU shoppers support and understand the use of recycled plastic in packaging.
Recently, Amcor also launched recycle-ready, monomaterial PE fertilizer packaging, customizable bottle and lightweight packaging for personal care, and a recyclable water bottle cap for consumers with limited hand function.
