Amcor has unveiled a recycle-ready, monomaterial PE film for Belgium-based De Ceuster Meststoffen’s fertilizer portfolio in Europe. The solution replaces De Ceuster Meststoffen’s previous multimaterial packaging structure, which was not designed for recycling in existing recycling streams.
The new packaging incorporates 35% PCR content and is available in sizes ranging from 650 g to 7 kg. LCA data shows that the solution can deliver a 17% reduction in carbon footprint.
Neal Geryl, sales director at Amcor, says: “The combination of recycle-ready, monomaterial construction with PCR content demonstrates Amcor’s commitment to advancing circular packaging solutions.”
“This solution enables brands to progress their sustainability objectives while maintaining product protection and shelf appeal, and supports customers across Europe in preparing for the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation requirements.”
Strong on-shelf appeal
The film was developed using a combination of machine-direction oriented PE and a functional sealant layer. The machine-direction oriented structure is said to provide reliable protection against gas and moisture ingress while maintaining high tensile strength and resistance to tearing or puncturing.
The packaging’s secure seal was added to reduce outer-layer deformation, and the film’s rigidity supports smaller packs staying upright on the shelf. A high-gloss finish improves brand visibility and consumer appeal at the point of sale.
Sofie Peeters, communication manager at De Ceuster Meststoffen, says: “Sustainability has been one of the core pillars of our corporate philosophy. This latest packaging innovation is another step forward in delivering high-quality fertilizer products while advancing our environmental goals.”
Berry Global, now combined into Amcor, introduced its flexible Bontite Sustane Stretch Film with 30% PCR content last year. The company also equipped Danish dry mortar specialists with its form-fill-seal film. The packaging solution incorporates 30% PCR content and provides moisture protection.
