Cleancult debuts zero waste, refillable system for plastic-free hand sanitizer
24 Mar 2021 --- Zero waste cleaning brand Cleancult is launching its first Foaming Hand Sanitizer in an innovative refill system, featuring a shatter-resistant glass bottle which is refilled. The refills come in recyclable, paper-based milk carton-style packaging.
“By making the switch to Cleancult, families can save up to 44 pounds of plastic per year,” says co-founder and CEO Ryan Lupberger.
The company says it seeks to “redefine” sanitation with the power of eco-friendly ingredients and “none of the plastic.”
“With the growing need for hand sanitizer, we felt compelled to develop a sustainable solution, and we're happy to launch the world's first and only zero waste hand sanitizer,” Lupberger adds.
Hands clean off plastic
The COVID-19 pandemic has put emphasis on sanitation and many industry players are launching eco-friendly and single-use options for sustainability conscious consumers.
Lubrizol Life Science Beauty introduced Caps2go, a skin care serum available in five formulas, packaged in single-use capsules. The packaging is designed to appeal to consumers seeking personal care products with better hygiene standards amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Sanikind launched what is touted as the first reusable, refillable and plastic-free hand sanitizer spray bottle.
US-based companyMeanwhile, UK-based Lifestyle Packaging designed a novel one-hand dispensing mechanism for alcohol-based hand sanitizer coined Snappd. The product is a brandable packaging innovation, developed to deliver a single dose solution with minimal contact when dispensing liquid.
Lastly, cleaning products company Jaws released a concentrated cleaning solution in a patented, child-resistant cartridge-based system that is also refillable.
Friendly to the skin
Active in the sustainable home cleaning category, it was a natural progression for Cleancult to develop a hand sanitizer, which has become a personal cleaning essential during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We started this company in 2019 committed to creating a better tomorrow by offering consumers a better, safer way to clean their homes that's also good for the environment,” notes Lupberger.
The gentle, fragrance-free formula is a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved disinfectant proven to kill 99.9 percent of germs.
Created with plant-derived ingredients and the disinfecting power of Benzalkonium Chloride (BKC), Cleancult's alcohol-free hand sanitizer is “kind to hands but tough on germs.”
In addition, it won't result in many of the pain points consumers have come to endure from other brands: sores, cuts and dry, cracked skin that can lead to increased germ exposure.
Backed by science
Benzalkonium chloride (BKC) usage has risen as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic when the hand sanitizer industry saw a shortage in ethanol and isopropanol, the company says.
Supporting BKC’s potential, according to a study published by the Journal of Hospital Infection in November 2020, BKC hand sanitizers were proven to be just as effective as alcohol-based sanitizers.
Safe for both adults and children, the new Foaming Hand Sanitizer is fast-drying and won't stain clothing.
Cleancult’s additional products include Liquid Hand Soap, Laundry Detergent, All Purpose Cleaner, Dish Soap, Bar Soap and more, all featuring non-toxic, plant-based formulas that harness the power of natural, biodegradable elements.
Many feature Cleancult’s CocoClean Technology, the brand's proprietary technology that takes the natural antimicrobial and antifungal properties in coconuts and uses it to power an unparalleled clean.
Cleancult is in the process of receiving the Environmental Protection Agency's certification to have its products become approved disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2.
