Clearwater Paper Corporation has launched a line of coated recycled board (CRB) for folding carton and carrier applications in the US.
The Circa paperboard was developed through a collaboration with Greenpaper, a producer of recycled fiber-based packaging materials.
“Circa recycled paperboard delivers strong printability, durability, and wet-strength performance,” Virginia Aulin, senior VP for Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Clearwater Paper, tells Packaging Insights.
The solution expands Clearwater Paper’s range, building on its solid bleached sulfate (SBS) portfolio, a type of paperboard made entirely from bleached virgin wood pulp.
“CRBs are especially suited for applications in dry food and commodity packaging, while SBS targets high-end graphics like cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, supported by Clearwater’s proven supply chain and service model,” adds Aulin.
She explains that the Circa range includes the Circa Carton, a coated recycled folding carton board, and Circa Carrier, a high-strength carrier board engineered for “demanding environments.”
Recycled fiber range
Greenpaper produces paperboard on its newly-reinvested recycled paper machine using a “circular manufacturing model” that turns post-consumer materials into new packaging solutions.
Aulin outlines that the Circa range is suitable for dry foods like cereal and crackers, household goods like laundry detergent, hardware, and toys, and personal care products.
“Circa is made from fully recycled fiber and supports customers’ sustainability goals while maintaining the strength and performance required across a wide range of packaging applications,” she underscores.
Clearwater Paper says that the collaboration with Greenpaper ensures reliable supply, quality, and competitive pricing.
“Clearwater Paper has established supply chains in the US,” explains Aulin, as well as “strong transportation capability along with broad sales coverage, customer service representatives, and technical services teams ready to assist customers.”
In April, the Clearwater Paper Corporation launched Velora, a lightweight folding carton paperboard said to deliver dependable performance, higher yield, and strong value for money.
Recently, Metsä Board officially opened its packaging design studio in Milan, Italy, addressing the need for fast, regulatory-compliant, and recyclable packaging solutions. Last year, Sappi North America completed the US$500 million conversion and expansion of its Paper Machine No. 2 at its Somerset Mill in Maine, US.
