OxBarrier launches licensing program for patented compostable capsule technology
OxBarrier has announced that its patented compostable coffee capsule technology is available worldwide through a global licensing program.
The European patent was confirmed by the Opposition Division and the Technical Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office after multiple “contentious” proceedings.
Boele Oltmans, OxBarrier’s managing director, says: “Single-serve capsules symbolize modern convenience, but they’ve also created a global waste challenge. OxBarrier’s technology allows brands to offer compostable capsules without sacrificing quality or shelf life. We aim to help the industry transition to sustainable single-serve packaging at scale.”
OxBarrier’s single-serve capsule technology also holds patents in more than 30 countries, including European markets, Canada, and Australia.
The integrated oxygen barrier ensures freshness while eliminating the environmental impact of traditional capsules, according to the company.
The licensing portfolio aims to make OxBarrier’s technologies available to its partners as the demand for compostable alternatives increases.
Recently, Tipa Compostable Packaging and Bio4Pack introduced an at-home compostable label for fresh produce, and Huhtamaki launched home and industrial compostable paperboard ice cream cups.
