Derprosa has just created a plastic polypropylene film (for packing food such as fresh vegetables, prepared salads or cut greens) which 99.9% reduces bacteria proliferation on its surface, showing particular efficiency in eliminating the one known as Escherichia coli (E.coli), infection of which is causing a serious crisis in Europe’s food sector. Amongst other advantages, this film also has anti fog properties.
Derprosa is a company with 20 years experience in researching and developing BOPP films for various purposes. This film originates from the company’s concern about health and food safety. After an intense research process, both in its own R+D+i Department as well as in independent international laboratories, a plastic was generated, which in contact with the film’s surface, reduces bacteria culture by 99,9%, especially of the dangerous E.coli, and thus contributes to guaranteeing the consumer’s health whilst not losing any of the packed product’s properties.
The certification of outside laboratories specialising in microbe analyses and internal ones carried out as the ISO 22196:2007 procedure, demonstrates that E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria’s 99.9 % disappear from both outside faces of the film. A comparison of Derprosa's solution which has a specific antibacterial agent, with another which does not, clearly shows the differences in the increase in the microorgan population in the one without the antimicrobe solution used by the Derprosa film.
With this innovation, the Derprosa team wishes to cooperate in protecting the health of the world’s consumers. In the words of Ignacio López Baillo, the company’s Commercial Manager, “this is the quick, effective response demonstrating how sensitive and professional Derprosa is as to the concerns and requirements of our customers, whilst being flexible in our solutions and responsible towards society and our surroundings”.
The film may also have other uses such as packing children’s books or products, thus promoting hygiene in such a vulnerable social group.
