FachPack 2021: Leibinger progresses Industry 4.0 with cloud-based monitor platform for coding printers
01 Oct 2021 --- Coding and marking specialist Leibinger exhibited its new Leibinger Connect platform at FachPack 2021 this week. The cloud-based data technology allows printing companies to monitor the status of their Leibinger CIJ printers remotely via URL in any browser.
The launch arrives “at the right time,” Ingo Rumpel, the company’s head of direct sales, tells PackagingInsights. “Everybody is talking about digitalization.”
Users can respond immediately and minimize production interruptions or waste by receiving printer messages via the dashboard or email. The Connect platform further allows customers to plan service appointments in advance and prevent production downtime due to overdue maintenance.
“We found it very important for the user to have this valuable data available at one glance, and in one central platform. This gives the customer the opportunity to validate, analyze and make use of all of this data provided by the printer,” Rumpel explains.
Bird’s eye view
The new analysis tool is handy for larger companies operating with several printing lines needing a one-stop-shop overview.
The tool circumvents “time-consuming checks” of individual printers. Each printer is immediately and clearly identifiable, as the platform provides detailed information on the current value and progress of the utilization rate of printers and production performance.
Customers can benefit from the comprehensive overview of the printers’ ink and solvent levels. For example, the tool can check how many products can be marked with remaining resources and ensure they are replenished on time.
Although Leibinger Connect gives users more oversight and independence, the third-generation family-run company still offers hands-on service support.
Leibinger service partners can directly see the status quo of printers and, if needed, create first-error diagnoses without detours. This remote function avoids the cost of unnecessary on-site service visits.
Speeding up Industry 4.0
Packaging manufacturers continue to integrate new technologies – ranging from Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and analytics, and AI and machine learning – to production lines to guarantee smooth operations and maximum oversight.
In June, Sidel introduced a highly flexible Industry 4.0 case-packing platform for shaped containers in wrap-around blanks, trays and shelf-ready packaging.
The company indicated changing consumer preferences, environmental sustainability requirements, the growing need for added-value packs customization and new selling or shipping units are forcing manufacturers to adapt their production models and supply chains.
Last year, GEA piloted industrial connectivity company Weidmüller’s new Automated Machine Learning Software at its Oelde site in Germany, while SIG equipped all its new filling machines with industry-standard OPC Unified Architecture connectivity to drive greater flexibility in food and beverage manufacturing.
