Jisp launches augmented reality Scan & Save tech for carbon cuts and promotional marketing
27 Sep 2021 --- Retail technology company Jisp is launching an augmented reality (AR) vouchering system called Scan & Save in the UK, which allows consumers to scan product barcodes in-store and see promotions.
The solution will help brands focus on minimizing carbon footprint and waste by reducing the need for in-store point of service (POS), optimizing budgets, improving commerce and communications and growing sales in-store.
Initially launched in 12 Nisa stores in the UK, retailers will also be remunerated for each scan and voucher redemption, creating an opportunity for brands to incentivize store owners and build loyalty.
“This is truly disrupting technology that will revolutionize the way brands advertise their products in physical stores while maximizing sales for retailers,” says Julian Fisher, Jisp’s CEO.
“With a crowd of marketing and promotional materials taking up space, messaging can be diluted or, at worse, confuse customers. With Scan & Save, chosen promotions are delivered directly to consumers’ mobile phones.”
Innova Market Insights’ consumer survey 2021 found 17.3% of UK consumers were “very interested” in utilizing AR technology for packaging.
Aiding HFSS legislation
Scan & Save will support brands and retailers’ marketing efforts once high in fat, sugar and salt (HFSS) legislation comes into force in October 2022.
As the AR vouchers will only appear to those customers who are actively looking to purchase a product in the HFSS category, Jisp says it will ensure compliance with the regulation and allow brands and retailers to hyper-personalize their offers by fascia, location and customer.
“This technology feeds into our suite of solutions such as Home Delivery, Click & Collect and Scan & Go, benefitting brands, retailers and consumers while at the same time providing fresh opportunities for advertising post-HFSS legislation,” continues Fisher.
“We are exceptionally proud to be the first UK company to provide this service to brands and retailers of any size and shape.”
AR rising
Industry innovations using AR are booming, with Australian tech company Third Aurora unveiling Beerscans, an AR platform for the beer packaging industry.
Beerscans is a tool for brewers to offer unique virtual experiences to beer consumers by using smartphones to scan labels and AR to project content back onto the can or bottle. The high-tech innovation that turns product packaging into interactive “virtual” displays could help drive craft beer’s popularity even higher, Third Aurora supports.
Corona beer brand also launched an AR tool this year to show consumers their annual plastic consumption.
The AR tool, called Plastic Reality, offers consumers tips on how to reduce their plastic footprint, visualized via colorful virtual plastic pieces that splash across the user’s physical world “like seawater washing ashore.”
