Meyer Seals introduces hermetical induction liner for glass jars amid booming e-commerce
05 Jan 2021 --- Meyer Seals has developed new glass sealing called ALKOseal glasSecure for “aggressive” fatty and oily contents.
An ever-surging e-commerce market is challenging brands to upgrade their packaging and ensure products reach consumers in top condition.
“Although induction-sealing technology delivers optimal safety and performance of the product, providing sealing security on glass jars with oily, fatty contents, as well as for spices with ethereal oil contents has largely remained a challenge in the industry,” the company maintains.
ALKOseal glasSecure closes this gap with a recyclable, customizable sealing solution that complies with EU and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) food standards.
PackagingInsights recently reported how the expanding e-commerce market is forcing FMCG companies to rethink their packaging and brand experiences.
The ALKO portfolio consists of a family of seals that offer creative designs for easy, mess-free opening and resealable capabilities without alternating taste, aroma or temperature of the containers’ contents.
As the latest Meyer Seals addition, ALKOseal glasSecure builds on its predecessor ALKOseal, which protects coffee, spreads, powdered and liquid goods against oxygen and moisture while retaining aroma.
The two-piece liners have a flat polyolefin bond between the substrate material and the aluminum membrane.
The substrate can be foam- or board-based, meaning the wax-free solution offers a clean peel. Customizing the apertures to specific brand products gives the customer more control of dosing and measuring the containers ’ contents.
For example, a wider spout-shaped opening is ideal for ground coffee, whereas a smaller, partial opening might be better suited for chopped herbs and other finer spices.
When releasing the ALKOseal foil from the substrate, it creates a “crackling” noise, proving that the product has not been tampered with.
Inclusive peel tab design
Peeling a tab off of small F&B containers can be difficult for people with weaker manual motor functions, for example, children and consumers with arthritis, or the visually impaired.
The ALKOflex tab is designed with these target groups in mind. The 3D tab allows consumers to tangibly identify it and easily peel the tab off in a single intuitive move, says the company.
“Solving everyday life’s little frustrations, the ALKOflex tab leaves the competition behind and resets the bar,” says Meyer Seals.

Wine experts are regularly confronted with “reductive notes” and “post-bottling off-flavors,” phenomena associated with the introduction of the tin/PVDC density insert.
The reductive conditions, meaning a lack of oxygen, in the bottle can lead to the formation of volatile sulfur compounds.
Off-flavors of various notes are the “annoying consequence” for producers and consumers, Meyer Seals explains. Moreover, the associated commercial damage is considerable.
The company’s ALKOvin active with its acceptor layer binds the sulfur compounds responsible for the off-flavor and consequently protects the aroma of the wine. Simultaneously, it is as oxygen-tight as a tin/PVDC insert without containing a PVC/PVDC component.
